Faith Sheffield

As a black woman activist and artist, my life and work are one entity. I am invested in collaborative labor to confront our effort, or lack of, in undoing racism.

Biography

Faith Sheffield graduated from Wayne State University (WSU) with a BFA in Dance and a minor in Spanish. She grew up as a gymnast and began dancing as a teenager. During her time at Wayne State she has worked with Hanna Bricston, Marc Spaulding, BAIRA, Wanjiru Kamuyu, Meg Paul, Dr. Biba Bell, and more. 

The summer following her junior year (2022) Faith interned with Shaina and Bryan Baira. During this time she was in support and helping to codify a teacher training program for MVMNT PHLOSPHY, translate their work into Latin American Spanish, and be a strong member of the Detroit community. Faith has continued to work closely with Shaina and Bryan Baira / MVMNT PHLOSPHY studying dance theatre and plans to work with them when she graduates.

Faith has presented her choreographic work at festivals and on national television including the American Collegiate Dance Association (2023) and Detroit Public TV (2023), and has had work selected for main stage concerts at WSU (2023). 

Faith received her 200hr Yoga Teaching Training certification in the fall of 2019. She has taught yoga consistently through college and is still teaching today. She has a passion for community work and has had the opportunity to volunteer at both high schools and middle schools in River Rouge, MI. She has led football, volleyball, cheerleading, and physical education classes in yoga, meditation, and mindfulness exercises.
